SIBMaker LabPrototyping Studio in cooperation withCIC Berlin
Inside the Maker Lab · CIC Berlin

From idea to a working prototype.

This is the workbench for your prototype: 3D‑printing, electronics, wood & metal, textile & finish — in one place, with an induction, with the team by your side. For founders from the SIB‑programmes and HWR members interested in starting up; external makers are welcome as soon as the terms of use are in place.

00 — Overview

Your workshop for the first real prototype.

The SIB Maker Lab is the prototyping workshop of Startup Incubator Berlin — the place where an idea becomes something you can hold in your hands. It is the sister of the SIB Media Lab: there you build the story, here you build the prototype.

The lab

Place & tools

Workshop, equipment and induction in one place. You work on your own project — the team is there when you need it.

The programme

Money & coaching

Funding, stipend and mentoring run through the SIB-programmes. The lab is the workshop that goes with them — not a funding programme of its own.

01 — Areas

Four areas, one workshop.

From the first printed part to the trade-fair demo: you work across four areas — after an induction on the equipment, with the team by your side.

3D Printing

From the CAD model to the part — layer by layer, iteration by iteration.

Electronics

Solder, measure, flash — until your sensor board runs.

Wood & Metal

Cutting, drilling, enclosures — for chassis and trade-fair demos.

Textile & Finish

Sewing, upholstery, surface finishing — the final touch.

The detailed equipment list is being catalogued right now and will then appear live from the inventory system — no dead entries.

02 — Induction & access

First the induction, then the machine.

Short, hands-on, once per equipment group — after that you work on your own. Three levels, one system:

Level 1 — Green

Free after basic induction

Workbenches and hand tools — after a short basic induction you work independently.

Level 2 — Yellow

After equipment induction

Machines with their own induction — once per equipment group, then you are cleared.

Level 3 — Red

Supervised only

The large machines only run in supervised time slots — we are there with you.

The traffic light explains our induction model — it is not a contract excerpt. More on the Induction & access page →

03 — Process

Three steps to the workbench.

01

Request

Tell us on the Hours & Contact page what you want to build. We clarify needs, area and a date.

02

Induction

Safety and equipment — once per equipment group, short and hands-on.

03

Build

Your project, your hands. The team is there when you need it.

Build something you can touch.

04 — Lab duo · CIC Berlin

Two labs, one roof.

A lab duo at CIC: Media Lab for the story, Maker Lab for the prototype. Both are offers of Startup Incubator Berlin.

Sister lab

Studios, gear and know-how for your media production — live streaming, video, podcast, photo.
