Equipment & capabilities.

From a fast functional prototype to a precise furniture joint: this page shows not just machines, but what they are genuinely good at. Nine 3D printers, the Epilog laser and two soldering stations are inventoried. The xTool P3 All-in-one Bundle and the Shaper Origin system are being commissioned as new supervised workshop areas.

01 — 3D printing

Five models. Five strengths.

No single printer is the best choice for every part. Build volume, surface, material, support structures and quantity make the decision.

Five independently loaded Nextruders change automatically. This enables large multicolour and multi-material parts, flexible and rigid zones, and soluble support structures – without the long material changes of a single nozzle and with very little purge waste.

The enclosed chamber, heated up to 60 °C, stabilises engineering plastics. Suitable for durable parts that push open-frame printers beyond their limits.

xTool P3 All-in-one.

80 W CO₂ laser for large surfaces, tall objects, long workpieces and rotary jobs.

Four cameras support positioning and batch jobs. The conveyor extends the working area for long sheets, the RA3 module processes cylindrical objects, and the AP2 Max air purifier is part of our complete package.

A prototype receives its outline, openings, labels and branding in one workflow.

Epilog Zing 24

The established 60 W CO₂ laser for compact flat work up to roughly 610 × 305 mm: front panels, stencils, labels, models and precise engraving. The P3 expands this area but does not make the Epilog redundant. The Epilog Zing 24 runs supervised only: appointment by arrangement, material approval and fire watch included. There is no self-booking for the laser.

03 — Laser material

What goes in. And what never does.

At the laser, safety is decided by the material, not by the file. This approval list applies to the Epilog Zing 24 and, once it is commissioned, to the xTool P3 in exactly the same way. Both are CO₂ lasers: whatever destroys one destroys the other.

Approved

These materials are planned for both machines. Their origin still has to be clear, and the session stays supervised.

Plywood and solid timber

The standard material here, because it cuts and engraves reliably. Resinous and oily woods catch fire easily.

MDF and HDF

Cut cleanly, but char and smoke noticeably more than plywood.

Acrylic, that is PMMA

Gives the cleanest edge of all. Cast acrylic engraves better, extruded acrylic holds thickness more precisely.

Paper, card and greyboard

Cut effortlessly and burn just as easily, so never run them without watching the machine.

Cotton, linen and felt

Cut cleanly and seal the edge. Coated or impregnated fabrics are excluded.

Cork

Cuts cleanly. Heavily glued pressed cork frays and smells.

Vegetable-tanned leather

Fine once you have asked. Chrome-tanned leather and imitation leather never, they release chromium or chlorine.

Glass, tile, stone, anodised aluminium

Engraving only. None of these is cut here, not even at higher power.

Forbidden

These materials do not enter the laser, not briefly and not as a test piece. They endanger health or destroy the machine.

PVC and vinyl

Release hydrogen chloride. It attacks the airways and corrodes optics and mechanics from the inside.

Anything else containing chlorine

Neoprene, imitation leather and chlorinated rubber behave the same way, and you cannot tell by looking.

Fluoropolymers such as PTFE

Halogens, just like chlorine, so the same ban applies.

ABS

Melts instead of vaporising and releases hydrogen cyanide while doing so.

Polycarbonate, Lexan and CDs

Absorb the beam, burn instead of cutting and yellow along the edge.

Fibreglass, carbon fibre, circuit board

Epoxy resin and glass dust. Epoxy is explicitly excluded by the manufacturer.

Foams and HDPE

Polystyrene, PU and PP foam catch fire and keep burning as they drip. The most common cause of laser fires.

Galvanised metal

Releases zinc fumes, the same ones that make galvanised steel unsafe to weld.

Pressure-treated timber

Burns off the preservative salts with it; it belongs neither in a stove nor in a laser.

Mirrored surfaces and bare metal

Reflect the beam back into the machine. Metal is not cut with this setup in any case.

Unidentified plastics and coatings

Anything without a clear label cannot be assessed and stays outside. This is not a judgement call.

Offcut box and private material

Offcuts are not managed by software here, but by a box next to the machine and five rules.

Take a photo

One picture of the offcut, laid flat on the table. Nothing more is needed.

Give two dimensions

Length and width in centimetres, thickness only if you happen to know it.

Pick the material

Plywood, MDF, acrylic or card. That completes the offcut entry.

We deliberately ask for nothing beyond a photo, two dimensions and the material type: an entry that takes longer than tidying up simply never happens. Offcuts are listed on the material page. Like the booking system it is reachable only after login and clearance: without an account, the route starts with the induction.

Shaper Origin with BenchPilot, Plate and Workstation

Shaper Origin system.

A hand-held CNC router that brings the tool to the workpiece.

Origin sees the workpiece referenced with ShaperTape, displays the cutting path and automatically corrects the user's movement. BenchPilot takes over long or repeated routing operations; Plate and Workstation provide repeatable references for hardware, edges and end grain.

05 — Access

One machine. The right route.

FDM printers can be self-booked after clearance. Resin, laser and mobile CNC are supervised processes with their own material and safety checks.

Clarify the project

Part, material, dimensions, accuracy and desired finish determine the machine.

Complete induction

Core safety plus machine-specific induction. P3 and Shaper are released only after commissioning.

Book or request

Reserve FDM directly; request a supervised appointment for resin, laser and Shaper.

The booking system is visible only after login and clearance. New systems appear there once inventory registration, operating instructions and induction are complete. The lab supplies the material; nothing is billed for now.

06 — Electronics

Build, connect, repair.

Two temperature-controlled soldering stations complement the digital fabrication tools: for sensors, cables, circuit boards and prototype electronics.

From breadboard to soldered circuit, from cable assembly to repair. The stations are not booked individually; once inducted, you use them during open workshop hours.
